The Ford Mustang Mach-E may be the most popular and eye-catching Mustang, but Ford wants to draw attention to the gas-powered Mustang. To help the 2022 Mustang feel fresh, Ford has released two new appearance packages. We’re not sure if the packages do enough to help the muscular sports car, released in 2015 in its current form, feel as new as the Mustang Mach-E. But they add another dimension to the vehicle
New skin packs are coming
Let’s start with the new stealth edition. The Appearance Package is an option for the base four-cylinder EcoBoost model. As the name suggests, the Stealth Edition adds a bunch of blacked-out parts to the sports car. The set adds clear taillights, black accents for the badges and black side mirrors. The sports car also comes with 19-inch wheels, an in-dash badge and a rear spoiler. The Stealth Edition will be available on the EcoBoost Premium model and comes with Gray, Blue, Black or Silver exterior colors. Ford has yet to announce pricing for the set.
The next package is the California Special, which is a name Ford has used in the past with the Mustang. The set is available on the GT coupe and convertible versions. The California Special package includes a black grille, a scoop on the rear fenders, badges and stripes. Under the hood, the set adds a new strut tower reinforcement. Coupe models receive a spoiler, while the convertible comes standard with a spoiler removal.
The California Special package can be offered as an option with the GT Performance package available for a sporty Mustang with additional styling. The GT Performance package adds upgraded brakes, a limited-slip differential, revised suspension, 19-inch offset wheels and Pirelli summer tires.
Packages to come early 2022
Unlike the Stealth Edition, the California Special Pack includes a few interior upgrades. The set adds Miko black suede-trimmed door inserts and suede-trimmed seats with an embossed “GT / CS” logo in the seats. Red contrast stitching, ‘GT / CS’ embroidery on the floor mats, a hexagonal carbon aluminum dashboard and signature California Special script badge complete the changes.
Ford will offer the California Special in a variety of colors. Atlas Blue, Cyber Orange, Charred Gray, Dark Matter, Iconic Silverado, Grabber Blue Metallic, Oxford White, Speed Red, and Shadow Black are all available exterior colors.
“Mustang owners have always loved personalizing their vehicle, and these new Mustang flavors are ready to inspire and thrill new enthusiasts,” said Jim Owens, Mustang brand marketing director.
Order books for the Mustang Stealth Edition 2022 and California Special packages will open later this year. The 2022 Mustang will hit showrooms early next year.
