Q: What children’s programs on WKAR demonstrate caring friendships?
A: What a great question, June 8 being recognized as National Friendship Day! The PBS KIDS programming seen on WKAR offers the best selection of content promoting caring friendships.
Each program strives to present a realistic description of how friendships form, evolve, and last over a long period of time. Our friends experience all kinds of emotions as they unfold. From joy to angst and everything in between, the characters model appropriate ways of handling it together. It takes a lot of selfless work to become a good friend and every friendship on PBS KIDS reflects that effort.
Here are some of my best favorite friend models that you will find on WKAR. Daniel Tiger is a friend to everyone he meets, but he has a very special pal in Prince Wednesday. Xavier Riddle enjoys adventures with his friend Brad, even when they are having trouble solving a problem. And friendship is a kaleidoscope when it’s as colorful as Donkey Hodie, Purple Panda, and lime-green Duck Duck.
As you watch, discuss how these friends resolve their frustrations, cooperate, and use their imaginations to learn lessons that will last a lifetime. Also underline the traits the characters exemplify such as kindness, empathy, and positivity. PBS KIDS features adorable and diverse characters who serve as positive role models and great friends.
